Go Hawks! Win it in OT!!!
This game belongs to Iowa. Come on, Gessel, White, Marble, Olasan, Basabi!
Everyone on here realizes how IMPORTANT this game is....right???
Basabe has been huge in OT.
Anyone else have chest nuts right now? Mine are up there..
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
And Marble misses a F*****g layup! Awesome.
Can we please add "Marble Iso" to the list of plays not to run in crunch time?
Gosh I miss Matt Gatens. Nobody on this team is clutch. That's what they are missing. Another blown late lead.
So we might not win a game on the road in the B1G. Just awful on the road.
Iowa beat NW by 20 on the road. No way they lose to Penn St or Nebraska on the road. Purdue isn't great but they are about where Iowa is and that place is tough. Just gotta start the game better.
i'm putting this loss on missed FTs....our overall % for the game was good, but we missed a lot of them down the stretch and to me that was the difference
our offense could use some major tweaking as well.
During the MSU game I was thinking to myself, who do you give the ball to on this team to hit fts down the stretch? Nobody shoots a really good percentage that would make me feel comfortable with the ball in their hands.
I would take someone from the women's team. How come they are always so much better free throw shooters than men? Not as physically tired, better technique, or better concentration?
I think a lot of that can be attributed to tired legs, but yeah, this loss hurt. Bad.
Agree, and I add Marble to that list. Both at the final seconds in the 2nd half and at the end of the OT he kept dribbling the ball hoping to get fouled. And again, I wonder why we start players who can not be in the game when the game is on the line.
I understand Woody not playing much down the stretch in most games because he can't shoot a free throw, but not playing Clemmons more in this one had me a little confused. I realize Gesell was hot and Fran wanted Marble to have the ball, but Clemmons has proven he can handle the pressure for a young guy.
I didn't read through the whole thread, so maybe it was already talked about.
When did he pick up his 3rd? I don't remember but I know it was sometime in the 2nd. I also thought he should have played more, but I didn't really expect Iowa to win this one. They haven't proven to be a good shooting team this year, and have also struggled on the road so far. At least the schedule lightens up so Iowa can make it to 8 or 9 conference wins.
I'm not sure, I just know he didn't play a whole lot after he missed a defensive assignment and was immediately sent to the bench. Fran has let those guys play through freshman mistakes all year, so I can only assume there was a mismatch with personnel recognized or Clemmons was under the weather.
i'm inclined to give the guys a lot of credit for playing hard and hanging in. as we're learning, this group doesn't stack up very well in the b10 talent-wise--but they do work at it. i had thought--or hoped--that if iowa could complement this year's class it'd be in pretty good shape in a few years. now i fear that the hawks will need to recruit over this year's class to finish in the top half of the league in a year or two. the freshmen probably can't form the core of a team that eventually will compete for an upper division finish. they're not lazy or soft--they're just not the best of the best and that's what the b10 is attracting these days.
we can ask coach to adjust the line-up. basabe should likely play a few more minutes and woodbury might sit a little more; he might move oglesby down in the rotation and oleseni up--but it probably won't make lots of difference. fran is doing ok with the guys he has. the guys are doing ok with the skills they have. this just isn't a real good team or a real strong program and the b10 is really good.
no - you should put a shoe through it!
Wrestling owns the Olympics
I was close to this more than once during the game. Luckily I controlled myself and still have a TV.
I think iowa has earned the reputation of being a team that plays bad when the other team plays hands on D (grab ass defense) - hope fran toughens these boys up to finish off the season!
