I was a couple rows from the floor and what I saw was one of the better teams we've faced all year. Maybe not the most talented team, but definitely the most hard-working, well coached team we've played all year. McCaffery's gonna do special things at Iowa. I was really impressed with you on the ball pressure. Everyone always talks about Duke's pressure, but that was nothing compared to what I saw from the Hawkeyes. You had 5 guys playing great defense for pretty much the whole game. I said going into this game that I hoped y'all would go man against us, because that's pretty much what we faced all year. I assumed that Harris, since he had no trouble with Wisconsin and Duke's pressure, wouldn't have trouble with Iowa's either. While I do believe that Joe is fatigued, it wasn't like he was missing open ones or throwing the ball away. He just had an Iowa defender within an inch of his nose the entire night. While statistically it wasn't Joe's worst night, that's definitely the best I've seen a team defend him all year. You obviously also frustrated the hell out of Mitchell. That was by far his worst game is an extremely long game. The refs were letting both teams play down low, and the freshman Woodbury responded to it a hell of a lot longer than the veteran Mitchell. Woodbury's a keeper. He abused Mitchell and Tobey for the most part. Mitchell pretty easily shut down Alex Len and Mason Plumlee, yet he couldn't handle Woodbury. I know he hasn't played like that all year, but it's obvious the talent we all saw in high school is there. A year in the weightroom and he'll be dominant. On a related note, I was expectedly worried about the battle on the glass coming into the game. I thought that if y'all won that battle, you'd win the war. However, I didn't really believe that you guys would actually kill us on the glass. We've faced some teams much bigger than Iowa this year and have more or less held our own on the boards. But it wasn't that you were big, it was that you were smart. You forced all 5 of our defenders to immediately box out, or else. I remember numerous instances where 4 of our guys did exactly what they should, but one guy would be a step late, and here would come the Hawkeye player swooping in to grab the board. I thought it looked like we were prepared for it, we just didn't execute.
That's all I'll say for now. Better team won tonight. We didn't play great, but we didn't play horribly either. Y'all clearly earned it. We had won 19 straight at JPJ for a reason, but your guys did a better job shutting up the crowd than anyone else. Seemed like whenever it got crazy, you'd have an answer within 10 seconds. Might seem like a little thing, but I've seen a lot of good teams get overwhelmed and let 3 point deficits skyrocket into 20 point ones.
Great game, Happy Easter, and for God's sake beat the damn Terps on Tuesday.

Very classy post. Great game and good luck next year. The future seems bright with guys like Anderson and Tobey.
Classy post and thanks.
Kudos to the UVA fans that came on the board tonight and for the most part were insightful and humble. Iowa's defense has made HUGE strides this season, and they are a better team than their record indicates - lots of close losses that appeared to be in the bag. Fran has them scrapping for everything, and they don't back down after being challenged openly by him after the Michigan game. To the players credit, they have responded the right way.
UVA will be right there next season. Good luck to you as well.
Madbowler: On behalf of all my fellow hawks, I thank you for coming to our site and congratulating us. You're a class act. If you followed the game thread you probably noticed that we were all quite impressed with your team as well. With so many great players coming back next year, you will be a force in the league next season.
Best of luck and hope to see you guys in the big dance next year,.
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
This, very good post.

Life is hard. It's really hard if you're stupid.
A very good and insightful post. Anderson and Tobey are going to be monsters as they develop. Hopefully we get a rematch at some point next year. Good luck, and happy Easter!
As everyone else said, this is a great post, and we've really enjoyed you being on our board. Virginia really has a lot to look forward to as a program, as Anderson/Tobey is a great core to build around. Feel free to stop by more often - don't be a stranger!
Enjoyed the post. Are you gonna watch the BIG 10 Matchup ;P between Iowa and Maryland?
