Thought some of you would like to know.
Thanks for the heads up on that. Loved the postgame footage from the locker room.
Yeah, they did the whole show pretty well. I was 15 at the time and was/am a huge Iowa hoops fan, so it hit me hard at that age when those guys are your idols.
Agreed. They generally do an outstanding job with that show, so I've kind of wondered why it isn't a full hour. I would assume that's one of their highest-rated programs, so it would definitely help them. And while I think they did a great job with the segment on Street in the short time they had available, it would have been nice for it to be twice as long.
I wish they would've had a 2 hour tribute to Street, but does anyone really watch the BTN except for games? I really don't.
In general, no, but I think they get pretty good ratings for The Journey.
I've watched a few and they do a good job. Gotta give Delaney some credit for bringing that network around.
I agree. But I think they could cut a field hockey or lacrosse game if need be and add another half hour to The Journey. Sometimes when flipping through the channels, they'll have something on BTN that makes me seriously wonder if even 10 people nationwide are watching.
Haha, no kidding. You probably know better than I, but I think their restrictions are pretty strict on the BTN?
That's a good point. I assume they're contractually obligated to give X amount of program time to each school, and it probably has to be at least somewhat equal from school to school.
The Chris Street incident was pretty hard for people to comprehend when it happened.
My cousin was in the Airliner that night and said it was packed. The owner got everyone's attention and made the announcement that Chris Street had been killed in the auto accident. My cousin said you could have heard a pin drop in that packed bar. She said everyone sat down their beverages and went home. Many were crying.
We were on the bus on our way home from playing Clear Creek in basketball that night and I remember seeing the flashing lights at the accident from I-80. Then when we arrived back home and were in our locker room, our coaches made the announcement.
BTN did a very good job with the Chris Street segment. I live in Houston. My girlfriend has no idea who Chris Street was and I showed her the segment last night on BTN. She was in tears watching it.
It's hard to comprehend such a terrible thing happening to such a good kid. Here in the city, people do terrible things all the time and get away with what they do. Makes a person wonder why bad things don't happen to the bad people in the world.
Great post. There isn't much anyone can add to that, but thanks for sharing your recollections of it.
Bono - Did you play against Ashton Kutcher at Clear Creek? I'm guessing you're about the same age, and he is tall enough to be a BB player.
Great post and I've heard the same story from several people that were at The Airliner that night.
We played against David Kutcher who is either an older sibling or cousin. Ashton is a few years younger, although we used to hang out with a few guys from CCreek from time to time so I do remember Ashton. Clear Creek was a very small school at the time but very good in basketball.
My ex gf's step mom( i know I know) went to school with Ashton. Obviously off topic. Just thought I'd add. She still calls him by his real name. I think Ashton is his middle name.
Back to street, I was only 6 years old when Chris was killed, but I have family that lives in Indianola so I've heard a lot of stories about him as a high school player.
I remember watching some of those guys play that were on his team at Iowa.Wish I could remember seeing him play. I was definitely choked up when I watched the segment yesterday on my DVR. Tears to my eyes for sure. It just goes to show you how much these kids mean to all of us fans. We truly bleed black and gold.
You're correct... I believe his real name is Chris. The Kutcher I played basketball against who's my age is his cousin.
Pretty small world.
Back to the street topic.... I think I said this maybe in another thread, but I was really, really choked up(cried like a little ) during the segment. Love my Hawks!
Well, it was actually 2 posts up that you said that. Please know I say that in jest and am just giving you a little crap.
Hahahaha. Completely blew right over that post. Didn't think I had wrote anything in the thread. Apparently i was wrong. My bad.
Haha, well it was 13 hours ago, so there may have been some involved.
BTN aired it again last night—about an hour after our game finished.
