BHGP has an article on East/West alignment of the new BiG. And I thought this chart was interesting:
But 2013 hasn't even kicked off yet and 2014 is the distant future. So instead of looking forward, let's look back over the past 10 years (2003-2012) to see how Iowa has fared against the East and West foes. (Why 10 years? Because it's a nice round number.)
Iowa's record against B1G teams: 2003-2012
Michigan State 5-3
Ohio State 1-5
Penn State 5-3
East Total 20-18
West Total 24-18
With a division shakeup coming, lets look how Iowa has done against the teams that will make up the East and West divisions.
That's an interesting breakdown. I think this year's game against Minnesota is a big one for the Hawkeyes, as Iowa needs to reestablish itself in that rivalry by winning on the road. It's good to see Wisconsin back on the schedule, and Iowa needs a win in Lincoln this year to get on the board in that developing rivalry.
