Let me be the first to vote 'Yes'.
While the ultimate goal of a run into the NCAA tourney hasn't yet been realized, the
Attendance figures, at Iowa, since Fran took over have been on Hyper-accelerant.
And you had 2 extra games that were sellouts, in addition to the jam-packed Big Ten season.
But the thing that made me realize, Yes he does more than that?
Fred Hoiberg just got $2mil per year for 10 yrs at ISU.
Looks like Fran, in the Hawkeye state, is in line for an upward bump.

'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
Quite honestly, I don't think so until he takes the team to the real post season tournament. I obviously love what Fran has done thus far, but until the Hawks are in the NCAA Tournament, I say no. Good thing is we should only have to wait one more year for that.
Edit: I also don't think that just because Hoiberg gets a raise at ISU, Fran should get one at Iowa.

I think Iowa shouldn't give McCaffery another raise until they're done paying Lickliter.
Here's a link to an article that includes a PDF copy of Fran's current contract and Hoiberg's old contract. Of note, Fran's base salary would have increased by $200K per year for each of the next six years if Iowa had made the NCAA tournament this year. Here is his base salary in light of not making the tournament--
No raise until we win a game in the NCAA tourney,
Supposedly he gets a $50k bump if Iowa wins the NIT, too. And no, I don't think his contract should be restructured yet, as it just was last year.
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
The $50K for an NIT win is a one-time bonus. The $200K for making the tournament was an annual increase in base salary in addition to a $150K one-time bonus. Missing the NCAA tournament this year effectively cost Fran $1.35M over the life of the current contract.
Ah, okay, thanks.
He doesn't deserve a raise.
His team failed to close out winnable games when they had the lead late in the 2nd half.
While having success in the NIT, remember they are playing teams who just like themselves, failed to make the NCAA tourney.
Until Fran's team can climb over the mountain and contend for a league title and make the NCAA tourney, no raise.
Isn't Lickliter still on the university's payroll in his contract buyout?
The buyout of Lickliter was recently completed.
If you look at where our team was before Fran to where it is now, it would be hard to argue against one. Some pundits are saying that we are begin projected as a possible favorite in the big ten next year, I say keep him happy as we have come along way and it looks like there is no slowing down.
I was under the impression that Lick would be paid through the end of this fiscal year?
Thank you, Swank.
Another voice of reason among the VOTH posters.
From where this program was when he got here, to now being a contender, next season for the
Big Ten crown. And the fact that 'the Mayor' over in 'Lil brotherville' gets $2 mil per.........it needs to be done.
"And the fact that 'the Mayor' over in 'Lil brotherville' gets $2 mil per.........it needs to be done."
He's also won 2 NCAA tourny games in 2 years and nearly had a 3rd one. When McCaffery makes the dance and can show he can get it done in March, he will get a raise.
Edit: Meant to quote UI.
I think it's important to keep in mind that Fran received a raise less than a year ago.
Prediction time: In three years, Fran will be the highest paid coach in the Big Ten.
I didn't read the contract. Are you saying there was a time limit on getting to the NCAA's to receive the 200K annual increase and if he makes it next year (or whenever he does for the 1st time) that increase is not in play?
And to answer the OP, no, I don't think he deserves a raise at this point.
Yes. Based on the contract Fran signed last summer, he had 1 year (2012-13, this season) to make the NCAA tournament. If he succeeded, his base salary would increase by $200K/year. Since Iowa didn't make the tourney, he didn't get the raise.
Thanks. I bet his wife saw visions of Rodeo Drive fading away with every missed bunny.
If Iowa wins the NIT Fran will get a restructured/extended contract....you heard it here first.
I guess I must be one of those voices of unreason among the VOTH posters!
I'm not exactly sure how IA has become a big ten title contender for next yr except for an ESPN announcer saying so with the caveat that half of the top current players in the league must leave for NBA first!
In my humble opinion, taking the team from where it was to winning three NIT games, two of them over mid-major teams at home means someone is doing his job. Not making NIT would have been underperforming, not winning against two mid-major teams at home would have meant serious underperforming. So no, with all due respect to voices of reason posters, and with my personal best wishes to our coach who is performing as expected,I don't think he deserves a raise yet. If we were in the NCAA and had won a game or two I would have definitely voted yes. I guess that's why his contract has been structured the way it is - no need to revisit it!
Good to know. I remember seeing the salaries listed by the Press Citizen last year and cringed seeing Lickliter still on the payroll.
I agree with your inference. I don't agree with Barta's decision if it happens. No extension and restructure should happen until Iowa makes the NCAA tourney.
But, we've seen how Barta operates ie Ferentz's contract.
Sky, are you really Fran's agent? Fran knows he has some work left and he's more than comfortable at IA City. When he gets IA in the Elite 8 next year, then you can write a new salary figure for negotiation. Fran is the man but lets not get caught up in this arms race when he's not going to leave IA after this season when he has not even met his own personal goal.

The sky is the limit...unless, of course, you actually are sky.
