ESPN's website, even tonight, has the Minnesota golden goofers as the
#10 ranked team in their BPI. Espn, of course is always accurate, lol, so this W should
really, really help the Hawkeyes sos.
By the way, espn's BPI shows Florida at #1, Indiana at #2 and Meeechigan at 6
'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
Additionally, did you know that the Sagarin Computer rankings had Iowa ranked at
#39 team in America, before beating Minnesota?
Minnesota, ranked by Sagarin was #15 team in nation........
BEFORE being beaten by 20 by the Hawkeyes.
And.......Minnesota's schedule was ranked as the #1 toughest schedule in the nation.
Hawkeyes need to keep the momentum rolling, with a couple or three more Wins in the
regular season, Fran's team is going to have a resume that cannot be ignored.
Today was a great win, especially considering the deficit Iowa had to overcome. As they said on the broadcast, I think Iowa needs to finish 10-8 in conference play to make the tournament. At that point, especially if the Hawkeyes can win a game in the conference tourney, I don't think there's any way the selection committee can keep Iowa at home.
And we are only going to get better, I wasn't looking at us hitting the dance this year so we are well ahead of what my expectations were.
Definitely - making the NCAA Tournament this year would be an amazing turnaround for this program under Fran.
I did not like the Fran hire at first (mainly because I had no clue who he was) but it is turning out he is the perfect fit for us, and my type of coach, a mad man.

He's definitely been a great hire thus far.

Another interesting tidbit........today's updated Sagarin Computer ranks
THEEEEE Iowa Hawkeyes as the #33 best College BB team in the nation.
And that puts Fran's program ahead of Alferd and Hoiberg, of course. Also, nipping at McDermott and the Ill-Swini.

I agree with this. I thought Iowa made a huge mistake offering him the job. I am not a huge fan of mid major coaches jumping into the Big Ten. I would much rather have a D1 coach or assistant take over. Obviously he has shown me that it isnt always a mistake. He has turned into what I think, could and should, get to the NCAA next year and possibly this year.
I also feel they pretty much control their fate this year with the NCAA tournament. Other than Indiana I could see them 4-1 in their final 5 games which would make them 7-3 in their final 10 games. They key is to not slip up against Nebraska and Purdue, if they lose either of those it make burst the bubble. It also looks like Illinois could be a solid win again with the way they are playing.
mkillian247 on twitter..... I say a lot of stuff you wont care about.
Two points unfortunately since the committee is made up of University Presidents they are incapable of looking at any computer ratings besides the RPI, too many numbers hurts their brains. They are only Doctors of Philosophy not Brain surgeons.
Secondly,Fran is different from many mid-major coaches in that he had experience as a major program assistant at Notre Dame and then went small college to get a head job, much like Bruce Pearl. Lickliter only got a head job at a mid-major because the two previous choices had already left (one with no success and Thad Matta that turned out pretty well) he became coach at Butler because it was his turn.
Illinois just beat Wisconsin & Minnesota and is on a 4 game win streak.
So, not sure that I'd 'chalk-up' the Illini game in the W column, just yet.
By a long stretch..........
That being said, if Hawkeyes can get to 20 or hopefully 21 wins, then take care of
Biz at BTT and play well, there, ' we could be Dancin........yeah'
I think Iowa needs 22 wins and no bad losses( I don't think we have 1 bad loss this year) to make the tourney.
