The world has now officially gone Mad.
Boy Wonder is heading to UCLA, after getting kicked out of the NCAA tourney by
I knew I should have applied for that job.
'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
Doug Gottlieb tweet on Alford to UCLA:
Strong and wrong “@GreggDoyelCBS: Alford isn't a great hire for UCLA - but UCLA tried to hire greatness, and greatness said no.”
Hahahaha. New Mexico just got Alford'd!!! I give it 5 years and he leaves UCLA for San Diego St.
A definite upside in Alford's hiring by UCLA for Iowa fans........he is now further away from Iowa than ever before. Too bad Hawaii did not offer.
Do not know if he will be able to stand the relative non-glare of the California spotlights on him, but at least it should get him a nice pay check and good weather as long as he is out there.
Good luck in the land of fruits and nuts, Steve.
Probably the Pat Riley look-a-like hairdo sealed the deal:
Iowa sports journalists nails this one.........
Nobody fails upward quite like Steve Alford. A couple first round losses at UCLA, and he should take over Miami Heat.
That comparison is uncanny.
Good hire IMO
Please tell me I don't need this
What is ucla thinking? I guess Doc Sadler and Matt Doherty weren't available
Goal in life is to make the Huskers Illustrated Hall Of Fame
It shouldn't be long before the LA press starts making comparisons of Steve to John Wooden...."Indiana native comes to Tinseltown"...
...that would probably be a mistake.
Yeah, Boy Wonder has lots in common with John Wooden.
OK.........maybe only about one thing in common. They both coached basketball.

That's some good stuff, right there Chad.
Realistically, Boy Wonder was about their 4th choice.
Actually, they both played AND coached basketball.
Wooden was first player to receive All-American honors for 3 years, playing at Purdue and bringing home a National Championship in the process.
Wooden is also one of only 3 player/coaches to reach the Hall of Fame for both. Others are Lenny Wilkens (Providence)and Bill Sharman (USC).
At this time, I have my doubts if Alfie will ever be able to make the coaches HOF.
Who were UCLA's first choices? I know from the start Alford was in the mix, but I'm pretty sure there were others they wanted in front of him.
Also, kind of a slap in the face to the Lobos faithful after the big contract he just got.
I think Steve will find out the grass isn't always greener. As long as he was on top of the Mountain West, his AD and fan base were thrilled. Hollywood won't be do kind.

Billy Donovan was mentioned.....
Actually John Wooden coached basketball, the Boy Wonder is still trying to learn how to coach basketball.
Brad Stevens and Shaka Smart
I didn't want USC to have to settle for Alford, and to have fucla choose him is hysterical. Getting rid of Howland was a huge mistake and they deserve everything that happens to their once storied program.
For Howland, winning just wasn't enough for the fans in Westwood. 3 final 4 appearances and I think 4-5 PAC 10/12 championships in ten years, including this past season didn't cut it because watching a Howland coach team is apparently not exciting enough.
While watching his teams play can be painful to watch and he is a difficult guy to get along with, its hard to argue his results. He gets top level talent, and the downside to that is he has had a lot of 1 and done athletes in his time there. Even though his players hate him while they are there, and that has led to many transfers, he prepares them to play the game the right way and instills a defensive mentality in them which has led to many outstanding NBA players.
They will soon regret this decision and I couldn't be happier. I look forward to seeing Alford and fucla basketball become irrelevant.

UCLA I believe had one of the top, if not the top recruiting class this past season.
The program was only going from good to great.
Very bad firing. Maybe there is more to the story that hasn't been revealed.
at ucla. 18.2 million for him??? What a joke
mkillian247 on twitter..... I say a lot of stuff you wont care about.
Seriously, some of these Athletic departments literally have money to burn.
Your new coach just got beat by Harvard. Yipppeee Skipeee
And please, please let's never mention Boy Wonder in the same sentence as
the Wizard of Westwood, again.
It has been written, it shall be done.
UCLA fans are liking this hire..........should be USC & the rest of the pac-12 who love this move
What does Pat Haden have to do with this? Did you mean Dan Guerrero, who is fucla's AD?
As a USC fan, I love this hire! From what I've been hearing, the Ruins' fans aren't happy with this hire.
