Per Barry Alvarez
If true, I like that development. There's nothing at all to be gained for a B1G school by playing an FCS school. And if that school really wants a sure win, there are enough non-BCS programs at the FBS level that will provide just that, and would be more than willing to play a B1G team.
This is great news. It only helps the credibility of the B1G
So goodbye to UNI? I actually liked us helping out little brother.
Good, no reason to play them, IMO.
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
Good point. I enjoy helping out UNI and it is great to catch up with friends at instate games. If a B1G team wants to play a FCS team why should the B1G have any say in it? If the B1G wants respect they should maybe start winning some BCS Bowl games.
Alabama's Non Conference 2012:
It didnt effect their credibility? They still went to the NC game with 1 loss.
Also find it funny that Alverez brings this up after a down UNI team took Wisconsin to the wire last year.
It isnt the OCS that is making the B1G a laughing stock, its their peformance on the big stage. Michigan getting rolled the last 2 years against Bama hasnt helped. Hate to agree with Urban Meyer but it all comes down to recruiting, not Iowa playing UNI every other year in front of a sellout crowd. This move will kill UNI sports. Playing Iowa and Wisconsin made their budget last year.
Iowa has Missouri State, UNI, Illinois State and North Dakota State on the schedule in 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016.
I find it ironic that Alvarez would be the one who's offered this...""The non-conference schedule in our league is ridiculous," Alvarez said on WIBA-AM. "It’s not very appealing…"
When it was Brett Bielema who was 7-0 in his seven seasons said this about scheduling FCS foes..."I love to play conference games and all of that," Bielema says. "But any time you can go outside your schedule and bring, whether it's an FBS or an FCS, someone new to the table, it's a new way to prepare. It's a new team that you're looking at. I think in general it's a good thing."
I'm not sure about the context of Bielema's quote, but I would imagine he was responding to a question during the week they were preparing to play an FCS opponent. At that point, there isn't much else he can say other than point out the positives of the situation.
If anything, I think it's more ironic that Alvarez would knock the scheduling, when he was the one that actually headed up Wisconsin's scheduling efforts as the AD.
Alvarez is drunk 90% of the time
I'll believe this when I see it. Or don't see it. Until the B10 goes to a 10 game conference schedule I don't think it'll happen.
