The evening started out so well. The Hawkeye Huddle was moved to the Grand Ballroom of the New Yorker Hotel on 34th Street (On Tuesday it was held in much smaller function room). It was a blast. Herky was there as well as the pep band and cheeleaders. Many door prizes and giveaways.
(To answer a question on the live game thread: Yes, they did run out of Bud Light.)
Met Barta, Mrs. Oglesby, Mrs. Basabe (and Mel's grandparents), Roy Marble Sr. (again) and Ken Grabinski from the legendary 1970 team. Also ran into Michal Payne at halftime. He looked great. He now lives in Virginia.
There was a post-game party at the Irish Exit (plenty of free drink coupons for it were given out at the Huddle). I was too dejected and it was getting late and I walked home. Quite unusual to be talking Iowa sports with other Iowa fans on the streets of Manhattan near midnight.
No comment on the game as you all saw it as well. Stayed to the very end. But I'll take a 25-win season and playing in April. Really looking forward to the 2013-14 campaign.
Let's Go Hawks!
Hey, taking in a loss at MSG with fellow Hawks is better than taking in a loss at home watching it on TV. Given the opportunity, I still would've gone to the game if I knew the outcome beforehand.
But at least I saw the Hawks win a game (Maryland) in the Garden.
Haha, I knew they would run out, classic!
At the Hawkeye Huddle for the Rose Bowl in 1982 in downtown LA, they ran out of every kind of beer they had! The hotel did not understand the meaning of the song "In Heaven there is no beer".
