QB-Cody Sokol, Jake Rudock Sleeper- Cj Beathard....quickly becoming a message board legend
Freshman Excitement- Well Shimonek is our only QB so I choose him. His videos look impressive, but will need to sit and learn
Pick to click- Sokol
Just guessing here but not seeing Jake enter any games last year spoke volumes with me. I hope i am wrong. I think even if this year is a failure offensively that you will see a major improvement in the passing game. Year two in the system will help quite a bit. My prediction is that Sokol beats out Rudock and throws for 17-20 td's this year. Still not a fan of this offense, but we do got to give a little time.
RB-Bullock/Canzeri, Malloy Sleeper- Malloy.....I heard good things last year and he is up to 215/220ish
Freshman Excitement- All 3...I am crazy about all 3 to be honest, but I got to say Akrum Wadley has got me the most pumped
Pick to Click- Canzeri
I believe in 2013 we again will go without a 1,000 yard rusher. But, I am very excited to see how they utilize Canzeri and Bullock this year. I they both rack up quite a few receptions out of the back field this year. I have to say I am a bigger believer in Canzeri than Bullock tho. The only reason I don't have Wiesman is that Rogers is no longer on the team (seeing his twitter account is active again) and Mark will be needed at fullback. That being said I think we see a lot of Wiesman in single back sets and as strange as it sounds I think he will stay healthier in that role. As for freshman I think you will see 1 or 2 play this year depending on if we have injuries. I do see one of either Wadley or Parker being an instant impact player on special teams with Daniels contributing if any other RB goes down. I am pretty high on all 3 rb's coming in, Wiesman 600, Canzeri 400, Bullock 400....just throwing our some numbers
FB- Wiesman Sleeper- TheTgraham
We simply don't have anyone else.
WR- (Martin-Manley, Cotton) (Smith, Mabin or Hillye/freshman) Sleeper- Mabin/Wilson...young wr's with 2 years in the system
Freshman Excitement- Tie Anjeus Jones/Derrick Willies....Big, Fast, Strong, and just scratching their potential. Pretty jacked about these last two wr classes regaurless of rankings
Pick to click- Smith
This year should be interesting. If we decide to spread people out with 3 wide sets I think you see Cotton and Smith on the outside and KMM in the slot which would be nice. Not a huge fan of cotton besides on special teams, but could play an Ochoa type role. I think Tevaun Smith will become a go to guy this year. Yeah he had his struggle as a TRUE FRESHMAN, but when he was in the ball seemed to be flying his way and there is a lot to be said about that. KMM is a slot Wr and should be a natural fit if we go 3 wide. I think he would become a very dangerous WR if we use him right. It is really about the other WR's stepping up and allowing him to move inside. As much as I want to think it could happen I don't think we see any true freshman see any significant playing time, but this would be the year to do it. KMM 650, Smith 700, Cotton 300
TE- Cj Fiedorowicz, Krieger-Coble/Duzey Sleeper- HCK...looked to beat out Hamilton last year and imo will be the next Starting TE
Freshman Excitement- Jon W....Fast, Athletic, and a nice frame to work with. He will have plenty of time to develop
Pick to click- CJF
CJ CJ CJ......feed CJ the ball. I am not talk 8 three yard passes a game. I am talking about him running up the seems and post patterns. The guy is to big, and talented to be running routes that don't cause matchup problems.Yes, I am a huge CJ fan, but I do understand that he has to step up also. We have a heap of young talent (Hamilton, HCK, Duzey, ect) so the future will always be bright at TE. CFJ 600, HCK 200
OL- (LT Scherff, Ward) (LG Blythe, Donnal) (C Bofelli, Simmons) (RG Walsh/Donnal, MacMillon) (RT Van Sloten, Ward)
Freshman Excitement- Tie...if I picked one it would be Colin, but both will be maulers in Iowa City
Pick to Click- Bofelli
Injuries killed us last year....killed us. Most notably the offensive line with Donnal and Scherff going down. At the moment it seems that Scherff is right on track to start again at LT which is huge for us. I think this is the break out year for Bofelli as he has been waiting his turn for 4 years. He is smart, physical, and has great size for a center. At RG it is a question of if Donnal gets healthy in my opinion. If not I believe Walsh has it easily and if he is it will be a fight to the finish. Blythe showed that he was a freshman last year, but I think he takes the next step on the OL. This core is what could get Iowa 8 wins this season.
the tgraham approves this message~ the tgraham
Beathard at qb,
I still see Weisman starting at rb, and they will find someone for fullback, unless they figure out a way to get the ball to him at fb, he is our best running back at the moment but nice thing is if he does go back to fb, we have plenty of good back to choose from, Canzari, Bullock, Malloy, Dawson etc. i think if Daniels can pick up the O and learn how to block he may be a solid contributor by mid season (still would'nt mind seeing him red shirt now that hopefully AIRBHG is gone)
Fb. see above
Tight Ends: We all know Cj is the man, but I think this is Ray Hamiltons break out year for grabbing the 2nd spot. But Duzey and HKC are going to be pressing him.
W.R: KMM, obviously and I think Tevaun Smith has his coming out party, I think he is going to be a GREAT one for us I just hope it is sooner than later, And Powell will be an impact player right off the bat, and Cotton will also play a big role, Over all we really have a ton of promising w.r's now and I can't say who I think is going to break out, I hope it is kids on the team now so we can red shirt most of the class coming in, as I think this years class has potential to be an outstanding class, top to bottom with Jones and Willies being absolute animals.
Offensive line: is too hard to tell without me knowing how injuries are coming along, I really hope Donnal gets better and can be L.T where he belongs, Scherff is a big powerful and athletic guy but I think he needs to be on the inside unless his pass protection improves ALOT, Ward, Blythe, Walsh, are all super talented and it is a toss up to me who emerges but I say Blythe and Ward, Van Sloten can be in the mix, And I see Simmons beating out C.B. And actually looking down the list with Keppy and the incoming freshman we really do have potential to be a very very good o line if they can figure out what works best, tons of talent and a lot of these kids were wrestlers as well so it is a very athletic group to boot (Wrestlers on the o line are probably my favorite type of O lineman)
You know really going over the team I think there is good reason to be optimistic we just need a q.b to emerge and the right type of w.r's to make Davis' offense work. It really is loaded with talent, but getting the talent to shine is another story.
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
I totally forgot about Powell.....
Pretty good talent isn't there, I just hope it pans out.
Is it just me of did everyone else have the same reaction watching Parker and Wadley's highlights? Like how the heck did these two go unnoticed from all sites and bcs schools. I had the same reaction when I saw Jewel Hampton committed a few years back.
I loved both of their films, they are a tad small but a red shirt year should take care of that, I really see them utilized in the slot more because we have plenty of depth at running back (of course that can change in a second at Iowa) but it is nice to know they are versatile enough to do both if needed.
What about Hill from Cedar Falls coming off of injury
Not a fan. But, i hope I am wrong. I just think we have backs that are better suited for this offense.
I don't think they will have a FB in the offense anymore
Aside from CJF and the line, it's a lineup that doesn't excite me much. Just too many ?'s to feel good. Weisman has to play but FB is a waste for him. He's too valuable to be relegated to a blocker role for less talented RBs. I think we'll see a lot of one-back sets with two TEs, one as an H-back playing the FB/lead blocker role. That allows more wideouts on the field--KMM, Powell, Mabin, Jones. I'm really hoping that Daniels steps up to back-up Wesiman or that we'll see them in the backfield together.
Hey now! This ain't no VIP thread. ;)
Todd is a sneaky guy, got me to post vip even though I didnt know I was doing it.
Here's Skyhawk52's 2 deeps for the Iowa offense, come August.
WR: Kelvin Martin-Manley (top 10 BIG receiver 2012), Smith
TE: CJ Fiedorwicz, Ray Hamilton/Henry KC (very solid TE spot)
LT: Brandon Scherff, McMillan
LG: Andrew Donnal, Ward
C: Conor Bofeli, E Simmons
RG: A Blythe, Ward/Simmons
RT: Brett Van Sloten, Ward
SE: Jordan Cotton, Damond Powell
QB: Jake Rudock, Beathard/Sokol
RB: Marc Weisman, Bullock/Canzeri, Barkley Hill/Mike Malloy
FB: Brad something? who knows
Agree with Todd W that our Freshman RB recruit has good chance of seeing field at some point. (LeShun Daniels)
However, I see the more experienced guys getting the bulk of the carries and passes out of our Backfield.
For the record.......my CHIEF concern isn't with our personnel, it's with our Offensive Coordinator.
He needs to show that he can be productive..........early and often.
'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
Weisman can and probably will do well against out of conference play. However, another back (Bullocks or Daniels) will have to step up for this offense to be successful in b1g play.
At wr, i am very excited to see what Powell can do. Smith should emerge and kmm will be a consistent receiver for the new qb. For freshman, i dont see how Willies isnt a contributor by the end of the season with his size and speed.
OK, I'm gotta ask...Whats with this love for Jordan Canzeri? Not trying to be a smart ass here, and I would really appreciate a serious answer. Maybe some of you have seen something I haven't.
Remember the Oklahoma game? His only real playing time. Too small to run thru the tackles and not fast enough to take it outside. The most telling play was one of those lame toss sweeps they ran, and hes running 2 yards away from the sideline and that Oklahoma LB comes over and hits him, and by the time his butt hits the turf hes 4 yards out of bounds.
Hes simply not a talented RB, not big or fast enough to be playing B1G football. I mean if he left the program, I wouldn't bat an eye. And the way his family members were whining for him on twitter last year, I'd say good riddance.
Keep in mind that he was a true freshman that year. Not sure it's fair to write him off just yet.
Write him off?....Todd I never wrote him in...
I disagree with not being fast enough, he is very fast, he was very small however but he should have good size by now. I still think he gets passed by though even with Daniels coming in. It is hard for me to judge at the moment I have never seen Malloy,Dawson,or Hill play or how Canzeri has progressed but I do think Weisman and Bullock are very talented running backs and will see most of the carries
I agree, i have never understood why many people think he is a legitimate option. Maybe he will surprise me this year...i hope so.
I was remiss in not mentioning Derrick Willies; agree, I think he can be an early contributor.
Size & speed, to go along with work ethic makes me excited about Derrick's potential.
Canzeri has great speed and you will see it this year, along with great hands. He is also up to 190 and is a perfect fit for Greg Davis's offense. Canzeri was a 175pd RB against a fast Oklahoma D who sold out on the run to make JVB beat them. Didn't he start the game like 1 for 10 passing??? I wouldn't be surprised if he passes Bullock really soon considering he was the heavy favorite last season to win the job on top of it. Yep, I am a Canzeri guy and you all will be soon.

I'm not saying he's a cream puff but Canzeri sounds like it should be some kind of Italian pastry.
