Coaches salaries and Gesell starting?

  • Should Fran get a raise if Iowa dances in the big dance? Right now he's just above the NW coach. Can't believe Bielein is only making 1.8 for the might UM and Bo is 2.1 after all of those tourneys? Come on, cash in guys. Heck, look at Matt Painter. =)

I hope the title is just an assumption by the Rick Brown. Gesell, shouldn't be starting if he still experiencing pain. Let's see how it goes game time vs NW.

  • if several weeks of rest haven't made gessell pain-free it is hard to imagine that another day or two will make much difference. i assume that he'll be cleared to play but won't log serious minutes. just no way he can be either quick defensively or sharp offensively. perhaps he can provide some minutes of stability--maybe a key free throw here, an important assist there. i'm thinking maybe 5-10 minutes, judicously chosen.

  • It all depends on how much pain he has. If he can still be effective with a little pain, I could see him logging 18-24 minutes.

Several weeks? He has only had two weeks to rest it. He missed the Illinois and Nebraska games. Thats all.

it has been longer, kc. the register story supports my recollection that mg hasn't played since the game in lincoln. time flies.
it doesn't matter, of course, since there's no reason to quibble about how long he's been hurt. the question is how does he feel now.

  • Sorry. It has been 3 weeks. since he played. He missed 4 games. So two weeks plus this week so far.

  • I think he'll get some time. Coach even said he might start.

Here's the salary article printed on a familiar hang out for many of us:

According the crack reporters, at IC finest paper, he IS cleared to play, however he's still having a bit of pain.
    Maybe more than a bit.
Now, Mike is 18-19 yrs old and is playing great basketball.
Seem to recall Michael Jordan playing sick and scoring 50.
Time to take some Advil 100 mg before and at half time and kick a**.

Fortunately, we have a couple of additional point guard options, so
Mike can contribute around that number and we're still really strong resting him.

It's easy to know how long he has been hurt.
He was first hurting in the Nebraska game, so whatever Saturday that was.

  • I guess there is nice little raise... (from Brown's article on Hawkcentral)

Fate might have Iowa back in the NIT for a second straight season, despite the program’s first 20-win season since 2005-06. McCaffery stands to receive a $200,000 raise if Iowa goes to the NCAA Tournament this year, plus another $150,000 one-time bump. The NIT will give him a $10,000 bonus.

...and I guess Gesell is healthy =)
