Big East on life support

  • Boise State, SDSU, BYU are currently talking to MWC on contract negotiations.

Not to mention it recently lost Rutgers. With losses of Pitt & Syracuse on the horizon in July when those two schools are officially ACC.

Big East football as is: Louisville, USF(3-7), UCONN(4-6), Cincy, Temple(4-6).

Future possible members if they don't back out: Memphis(3-8), SMU(5-6), Houston(4-7), UCF, & Navy

  • Also forgot to mention the Big East lost its BCS AQ bid, doesn't have a tv deal sign yet & that's been since August, no official site for their championship game......

  • Sucks to be them....but the way of the future appears to be a FOUR conference super alignment and that will be B1G, SEC, B12, P12.

The ACC will continue to dissolve as well....2 more joining the B1G (UNC/VA), and 2 more defections each the SEC (NCSt/VT) and B12 (FSU/Clem). The P12 will need to scramble to find 4 more "legit" members, but it will happen...and they could come from the remaining ACC schools.

Welcome to the new world order.

    If I had to predict

    B1G - BC & ND
    SEC - Clemson & VaTech/Miami/FSU
    B12 - Leftovers
Pac12 - BYU, BSU, with two huge question marks after that

****edit - BC has the last connecting peice to the NY market. You get BC, and you have a huge TV market in Massachusetts plus leverage to get ND to commit to the B1G with them being their rivals. You snag ND, and it's checkmate cause you have all the TV markets.

fuisu, I would much rather have those teams over UNC/VA...but there is strong "rumblings" that Delany is already in talks with the later, and the former aren't even considered backups at this time.

  • I think the Big Ten should just expand to 20 teams. The original 10 in one league and all the newbies in another.

Yeah, BBR, I agree......I think it makes me feel a bit tawdry that the BigTen is 'breaking up' other leagues.

The Cornholers, Rutgers, Maryland, etc can be in the other division.

BBR........Gotta know if you are coming in to Kinnick on Saturday. GO HAWKS.

  • Cincinnati is hoping a praying for an ACC invite, but most likely they will take UCONN.

There will be plenty more openings in the ACC shortly....but in the end I think their best bet is a B12 invite
