  • We've discussed this before, but Iowa could very well start off 5-0 without anyone truly knowing how good the Hawkeyes really are. Definitely a nice advantage to have the bye week right before heading to East Lansing. That game, win or lose, will give us an indication of how good this team is.

And the week after will tell us if the team's going to be more resilient than last year.

    Very true!

With the bye week before the MSU game, and five very winnable games before that, I could see Iowa revealing some new wrinkles on both sides of the ball for that game in East Lansing.

  • Game at Northwestern is a "tossup"? Defense is still crummy and no Persa? Hmmmmm....?

They have always had a crap D that we couldn't do much against for whatever reason....until last year. Persa was great, but last year he was definatley not the same QB. Cain Colter looks to have an immense amout of potential and to be honest he scares the garbage out of me. The guy is very explosive and was the reason NU beat Nebraska last year. If we beat them this year it will huge.

On top of that we pretty much lost our whole offense and 3 starters on the d-line.

  • If Iowa is the team in 2012 that everyone hopes they'll be, there shouldn't be any reason to lose to Northwestern. But there are definitely some question marks with this Hawkeye team, and if there aren't enough guys that step up in 2012, I could see that game becoming a toss-up by the time it rolls around.

What about our recent history should move this game out of the tossup category? jNW always seems to have our number, we're coming off a 7-6 campaign with wins against Mich but a loss to Minn. jNW is be missing Persa and is coming off a 6-7 season with a win over Nebby but a loss to Army.

Good points here. Kolter is definitely dangerous, but I don't think he's as dangerous as Persa was. I thought Northwestern let Iowa off the hook a little in this past season's game by taking Persa out too much.
