  • This cpu here wont allow me to use social media(twitter), but my buddy texted me saying they are giving sweet updates. Can anyone fill me in. So far all I got was "Hyde, Lowery, Law, Miller are lining up as 1's with Torrey Campbell coming in as nickel."

  • Video Interview with Brian Ferentz and Steve Bigach

    Quote:
Scherff could be the next great Iowa lineman, falling in line with Robert Gallery, Bryan Bulaga and Riley Reiff. Yes, he could be that good.

    Quote:
But the guy to watch is sophomore strong safety Nico Law. Some compare his potential to former Hawkeye star Bob Sanders (yeah, I know.) No doubt, Law is a big hitter. And he delivered some blows today, eliciting some “oohs” and “aahs” from teammates.

    Quote:
Walking off the field with Kirk Ferentz after practice, he talked about the youth of this team. There are 32 first-year players on the roster. And there are only six senior starters on the projected depth chart: four on offense and two on defense. That’s the lowest number entering any season in Ferentz’s 14 campaigns in Iowa City.

    Quote:
Davis dropped hints he felt the receiving corps needed to get faster. Senior Keenan Davis heeded his words, dropping weight and looking quick in and out of his cuts today. Wideout coach Erik Campbell told me he likes the way the unit is taking shape, with sophomore Kevonte Martin-Manley also making some nice moves and catches this morning. Campbell also told me to expect some speed freshmen to work their way into the rotation – guys like Marcus Fleming and Tevaun Smith.

  • The one-hour BTN show on the Hawkeyes airs Thursday night at 9 p.m. CST.

I wouldnt read too much into the Hill over Garmon or Bullock over both talk yet. Im thinking Iowa will use 3 backs in any given game.

    1h Dave Revsine ‏@BTNDaveRevsine
Just spoke w Erik Campbell - says Don Shumpert has really emerged.

Good to hear. I was worried Shumpert was gonna go the Jordan Cotton route.

Feeling Buford might be the next Spievey, Godfrey, Hyde. Lowery is gonna be a stud too. I dont care what the recruiting rankings say, Iowa has been recruiting at another level the last 3 yrs. Hopefully it starts to show on the field.

  • I love Law he is going to be big time, Fleming and T. Smith are going to be game breakers I have said it time and again. Hill has more practice than Garmon BUT if Hill emerges and is good that is awesome I always pull for Iowa guys plus you know Garmon has the potential to be very good. The line may end up being very very good by the end of the ear I just hope they gel sooner than later. D line has to step up it is my only real worry but we do have the talent on the roster we just need people to mature FAST.

P.S I don't want Nico to be the next Bob Sanders I want him to be the first Nico, it can put a lot of pressure on a kid when people hype him up to be as good as possibly our best safety ever and I have to mirror what Fu said it is nice to know we have depth and talent at Q.B

Another thing that i consider when comparing Hill and Garmon is that Hill may be a lot more comfortable with a zone blocking offense since that is similar to what he ran in HS. While i know Garmons HS ran quite a bit of Option football. So this early in camp i would expect Hill to be a little ahead. Just something to think about.

Gerg Davis says he wants speed, supposedly those are the two fastest guys on the offensive side of the ball.

What do you think the chances are Weisman blocks for Rodgers or a vice versa? He's been toting the rock, be sweet to see a big boy package on the goaline.

I could see KF putting the ball in Rodgers hands in certain situations, like we cant turn the ball over situations. I would bet it will be more single back stuff like Edgar Cervantes used to rock. This Weisman guy is an interesting character. Alot of pics of him carrying the ball. Iowa also has that Meyer or Meyers that played as a true frosh last yr.

All and all I have no idea how Greg Davis will use the FB. Everybody keeps saying that he runs multiple TE sets and likes to motion them and use the FB and throw to them and the HB will get alot of receptions but IDK. Something about KF football tends to limit any offense creativity imo. KOK had a high scoring no huddle offense pre Iowa and his offense was usually bottom 1/3 of B1G. It will be intersting to see how much power KF gives Greg Davis. After hearing how KF was the one behind Jake Christenson and KOK was pushing for Stanzi I think Iowa's biggest threat to their O is KF.
