  • Heard this morning that Iowa is "on the bubble of being on the bubble."

Reason: No real quality wins, weak OOC and poor road record.

We also need a lot of other bubbles getting popped in the next week.

  • I just looked at bracketology on ESPN. I agree with their prediction. Illinois and Minnesota will get in over Iowa, regardless. NIT once again.

It appears it will take Fran 4 years to get into the tournament just as it did Tom Crean at Indiana.

The loss at Nebraska was the dagger. Iowa would be a game ahead of both and alone in 6th place instead of tied (with Illinois and Minnesota).

By beating any two of Indiana, MSU, Michigan or OSU in the conference tourney, I think Iowa probably makes it in as long as the Hawkeyes take care of business at Carver tomorrow.

Don't agree at all that loss at Nebraska would have made difference.

However, if Iowa had beaten Indiana, at home, instead of frittering it away and losing by 4, OR
had beaten MSU, when they lead most of the way, (all with Devyn Marble not playing the game),
the Hawkeyes might not be so far out on the bubble/fence, currently.

However, Iowa could still make it in the Big Dance. Make no mistake about that.

  • Just last year, we shouldn't be to work up about it, things will fall into place for the Hawks to make it into the dance. Some bubble bursts for Virginia, Kentucky, and UMass's loss. Others will fall into place, just preview this article: http://thegazette.com/2013/03/08/bubble-watch-iowa-had-a-great-night/

  • Three key, costly losses: Virginia Tech, Nebraska and Purdue, all on the road.

At the time, Virginia Tech was undefeated and it wasn't really a bad loss. Then they had a massive meltdown. Nebraska loss hurts. As well as not being able to pull off the win at Purdue, Wisky, and Minnesota. As well as not being able to close out MSU at home.

Indiana led pretty much the entire game at Carver. Iowa was just able to pull within a few at the end. We didn't fritter it away.

    This!
Take 3 from these lousy losses- Purdue, Wisk, Minny, MSU and Neb, then, it wouldn't be an issue. 22-8 that would make it? Like those numbers. Then, 1 more vs Neb. Ahhh.

Ok, let's win over Neb convincingly first.

Here's a great article considering all recent wins and losses.

But before you read on, again, I think it's unfair to compare Fran to Crean. First of all, Crean reached final 4 with his last team; he has coached current superstar NBA players; and now he coaches Indiana, a team with a far superior basketball brand than Iowa (fair or not, it's the truth). I'm not being critical U2, so please don't take this the wrong way, but the comparison between the two is flawed as I think Fran has a long ways to go to be considered in the same league as Crean in the coaching community. I'm not suggesting he can't be there, but he's got a lot more to prove. I hope that we see him improve our program and maintain the success as Lute and Dr. Tom did. So far Fran gets ⭐⭐⭐s from me (out of 4), but I hope he becomes the winningest coach at IA someday, and takes us where no other coach has.

Anyway, the article below is worth reading.

Very good article. Purdue is taking care of business against Minnesota.

I was not comparing Fran to Tom Crean. I used Tom Crean as a reference in the time it takes to rebuild a program. In Crean's 4th year of rebuilding, Indiana finally turned the corner and made the Sweet 16.

I think next year Fran could have a team that in his 4th year as a coach, who has worked to turn around a once very successful program, could have an Iowa team that could make the Sweet 16.

I hope so, U2. It'd be great. And I can't wait for us to make the Final 4 - the last time was a long time ago, but I still remember how great it felt! :)

And I was there (Indianapolis 1980). Remember it like yesterday.
