8th grader offered scholarships from Alabama and LSU

  • That's pretty crazy. I guess LSU offered him a while ago. Not sure if it's been brought up here before. Now Saban offered a scholarship to 8th grader Dylan Moses. Seems like there should be some kind rule against that. 8th grade? Geez give the kid some time to be a kid.

Dylan Moses is in 8th grade. But that hasn't stopped top colleges from offering him scholarships.

  • Didn't USC do this a couple years ago with a QB? I wonder how that one is going, I think he would still be in high school now

  • The article said Wake Forrest offered Chris Leak as an 8th grader.

No, I mean like only a couple years ago, there was another one that USC offered.

    Lol.

Kids 6'1 215 lbs and in 8th grade.

Also if I was this kids father I'd be proud my son got a formal invitation to go to college for free.

Also adolescence is 20th century western philosophy. Kid is grown up enough to handle this news, don't make it something bigger than it ought to be. Oh crap I forgot Saban did it, so it must be evil.

That seems too young to be thinking about college. At least for typical kids. I get he isn't typical. But 5 years of dealing with all the bs of recruiting seems like a long time to me. I'm sure he wouldn't have minded a couple extra years out of the spotlight.

Yeah I bet it makes him pay attention in school like he should be doing.

I just think someone that great likes that attention. I know a lot of athletes like when they are being praised. Obviously don't know his academic situation, but hopefully something like this will help keep him on the right track in knowing what could be at stake

I bet if he fails out of HS he would've failed out anyways but somehow others will blame the pressure from Sabans early offer.... 20 years from now it will be a decent 30 for 30 on espn.

I never said anything about Saban. Just that I think it's kind of crazy to offer a kid so young. I know you are ok with it and that's great. But if you keep bringing Saban up people are going to start treating you like they do Romo and me. biggrin

Didn't Iowa offer Horner or somebody as a Freshman?

David Sills is developing well and will graduate in 2015. However, even if he ends up being a complete bust, offering him has already paid off for Kiffin and USC since they were able to sign his teammates, 5 star DT Kenny Bigelow and 4 star OL Khaliel Rodgers.

Thanks. I see personally see nothing wrong with it, if the kid is super talented, other than the article that I posted that pretty much says offer from the school doesn't really mean crap since you can give an official offer til their junior year.

  • I always find these kinds of stories intriguing. This past summer, Iowa offered Jerry Myles, a basketball player from Davenport, just before the start of his freshman year. There really is no disincentive for the school. If he pans out, they were in on him early. If he doesn't pan out, they have 3-4 years to rescind their scholarship offer.

Very true, and it goes the other way as well. You could theoretically commit to a school in 8th or 9th grade, but most people realize there's a pretty good chance you might change your mind before it becomes official.
