The 1985 team, one of my all-time favorite squads, finishes 10-2. I knew that game in Columbus would be trouble for us.

The season opened with a 58-0 trouncing of Drake. It would be the last time Iowa played Drake.
Iowa defeated a 10-1-1 Michigan team by a score of 12-10 on a 28 yard last second field goal by Rob Houghltin.
Brent Mushburger's famous line: " Rob Houghtlin stands 28 yards from never having to buy another beer in Iowa".
I was there.
BTW: 85 days is correct, not 84,

For an interesting look back, here is a link to the Daily Iowan archive. Look up the October 21, 1985 edition.
The Vine was advertising 50 cent draws, $1 Bar drinks and burgers and $2.50 pitchers.

And later that season Drake (4-7) beat Iowa State 20-17 on Oct. 5.

I happened to download an issue from the week of the Drake game and found:
"Drake Game Will Test Iowa Squad."
Other sports stories were the Michigan-ND showdown and Jim McMahon and the Bears, who went on to win the Super Bowl that season.
And Wed evenings at Micky's featured a $1.50 burger w/fries until 10 p.m. and $1.50 pitchers until closing.

I remember the game and that day like yesterday.
I was at a job interview in Cincinnati when Iowa lost to OSU in a driving rainstorm.
