4 Alabama players arrested on robbery charges

  • Three University of Alabama football players were arrested Monday on robbery charges and a fourth was accused of fraudulent use of a credit card, according to Tuscaloosa County Sherriffs Office records posted at jailbase.com.

Police booked Eddie Williams, 20, Tyler Hayes, 18, and Dennis Pettway, 20, on second-degree robbery charges and also accused the three of fraudulent use of a credit card. Police arrested teammate Brent Calloway, 20, for alleged credit card fraud.

Tuscaloosa police had arrested Williams on Monday and charged him with carrying a gun without a permit, according to the Sherriff's Office.

Three of the players players were reserves on Alabama's 2012 BCS national championship while Williams did nit play during the 2012 season. SB Nation noted that the players were top recruits for coach Nick Saban.

An Alabama spokesman told USA Today that the school is aware of the arrests but had no immediate comment.

Al.com reported that the arrest warrants state that Hayes, Pettway and Williams physically attacked another Alabama student and stole his backpack while knocking him unconscious. Both Hayes and Williams admitted to committing the crimes, according to al.com's account of the arrest warrants.

Al.com reported that the arrest warrants allege that Williams attacked another student in a separate incident while Hayes and Pettway waited in a car. Williams later used that victim's student debit card and credit card to purchase snacks from a vending machine in a dormitory, according to al.com's reporting on the arrest warrants.

Al.com said the arrest warrants allege that Calloway later used the second victim's student debit card with knowledge it was stolen.

  • Eddie Williams is a stud. But I can assure you he is no longer part of the Alabama team following his first charge on Sunday for carrying a gun without a license. He probably realized he was kicked off, got pist, got drunk, than picked a fight, stole the unconscious kids credit card, and bought a twinke from a vending machine.

The other three yahoos are good as gone too. They aren't good and Saban likes making examples of kids like that. I remember two years ago he kicked a stud kid off for failing his second drug test....

It's too bad these idiots can't realize what an opportunity they had, not only playing football for the Tide or in the overhyped SEC but the fact they had free food, housing and education..... they didnt need to be gangbanging and even if they never played a down they could've at least fell back on a degree to never have to gangbang again.

  • This is the stuff you gotta' love about some of the four and five star recruits. Their 'tudes, actions, and upbringing are not the stuff you build chemistry out of, or at least don't want to build it out of sometimes.

Despite all the criticism of this year's Iowa class, anyone notice the very high percentage of the signees that rank as honor roll and/or National Honor Society? I think KF has had enough, and seen enough, of the gangsta' 'tudes that just have not, and do not, go too well at Iowa. Maybe in the SEC they do, but not at Iowa.

At what point do you want to compromise between the quality of the athlete on the field as well as in the classroom and in society for the sake of getting a high-ranking signing class?

I think Ferentz had enough after the Dominique Douglas saga.

  • Maybe Bama should look into upping the wages they pay their players so they won't have to do things like this.

  • fuisu - Do you think Saban would give the other three players a 2nd chance if they were starters? What Urban Meyer used to call his "inner circle of trust" at Florida?

No, he runs a tight ship. Saban knows he'll go down as the best coach of all time and the last thing he wants is to taint it with a NCAA investigation.

Meyer allowed kids to stay on the team after getting busted with AK47s & 5 failed drug tests. Saban kicks players off after 2, no ifs ands or buts about it. Kids like Eddie Williams are a dime a dozen and there is plenty of them to replace his spot.

Do you really think they have done nothing wrong? I understand they don't have to recruit players line up to go there blah. But if they just did a random complete investigation of Alabama they would completely innocent?

Completely innocent? No, cause every team violates some rule that they don't even know they are violating.

You don't want the NCAA investigating any school (other than OSU) with a microscope. They'll find find something guaranteed.

Isn't this the reason they over sign so much?
