2014 Allen & 2013 Bazata just won

  • Won states in wrestling.

Nate Bazata won it in Nebraska and will be heading to Iowa City this fall to play DT

Brian Allen is a 2014 center prospect that Iowas been recruiting for awhile now. He won state in Illinois and placed last year.

Also in general wrestling news, two of Iowa's commits this year for wrestling team won their 4th state championship. It's a very tough task and few get the honor of winning one, let alone 4. Plus the fact they both won it in a strong state makes it even more impressive.

Thought I'd give you guys a heads up on our peps. I find wrestling to be one of the best offseason sports a football player could play. Defensively, shooting for a take down & making a tackle correlate well. On the offense, learning how to keep your balance & impose force correlate well with blocking. Mental toughness, diet discipline, & the grueling physical work that wrestling installs have shaped some of our best players.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

  • Guess I should have picked that info up from the wrestling thread, Sorry about that, but appreciate the info.

We didnt discuss Bazata too much just that he won, They actually are going to have 2 very good heavyweights on the football team with Bazata and Blythe, too bad they cant play both

Morris is the only wrestler football player combo I've been disappointed in.

Riley Reiff was an awesome wrestler, I knew he was bound for greatness. Feel the same way about Blythe.

  • “I swear it upon Zeus an outstanding runner cannot be the equal of an average wrestler.” - Socrates

A pretty good rule of thumb is dont mess with a guy that has cauliflower ear.

Ferentz has stated multiple times that he loves former wrestlers. Saw KF and his son Steven at the Big 10 wrestling tourney in Evanston a few years back. He was getting into the action just like any wrestling fan. His boys wrestled well in hs also.

Cant recall which one, but either Fred Barr or Colin Cole was a state champ heavyweight coming outta Florida back in the day.

I've been to ND football games, NFL games, Orange Bowl, etc and for my money the Iowa HS Wrestling Tournament is the most exciting atmosphere out there. Nothing compares to a last second takedown for a state title.
