    P 14 Wienke/15 Mullings

    PK 96 Meyer, 1 Koehn

    LS 61 Kreiter, 54 Bigach

    HOLDER 14 Wienke

I think Wienke is just keeping Connor Kornbrath's seat warm at this point.

Drew Ott is listed at 245 on the Iowa website.

Thanks for that - I got my information off of another, not to be mentioned, website. I too saw that Ott was listed at 245 on the Hawkeye site. Todd, I also saw that Chuck Hartlieb's son is going to be a walk-on this year, is that true?

I'm honestly not sure. He's not currently listed on the roster on the Iowa website, but that's not always completely accurate.

  • We can scratch Lomax off the depth chart...done for the year with a torn labrum.

  • Sorry if I offend you fish, but is Brommy going to release these this year? Is it just too early for Brommy to do an official one? It looks way better when he does it, I always really liked that set up.

  • Surprised to see a walk on from Drake in the form of John Sawhill, DT, 6-3, 277. He was at Drake for 4 yrs and played 3. I assumed he graduated (3 times academic honor roll) and can play right away. Any depth at DT is welcome.

I would agree that Johnson or Faith will see time at DT as well.
Getz is not recovering well according to Kirk. That's too bad. I like the kid.

...and Garmon with no suspension. Well, it would be weird anyway as KF would usually hold out true frosh the first few games (except for last year). So, how would you determine that one game of suspension?

Wienke was a pretty good punter in HS. Averaged 41.1. Not great but you can count him on to help with the tackling. Did you know he played DE his soph and junior yr in hs?

Who will fill in for Lomax? Torrey Campbell time?

Surprising not to see Blythe and Boffeli listed behind Ferentz.

Overall, so young... but will be fun.

I imagine he'll put something out there.

  • Sawhill.......seems like a pretty good name for a Defensive linemen.
Think this guy might make a splash in 2012.

  • I've seen a few mentions of Faith Ekakitie possibly cracking the rotation this fall. That'd be great if it happens, but I'd honestly be surprised. He's still VERY raw as a player. I think he has a lot of upside, but he may need a redshirt year before he's ready to seriously compete for a spot.

Perhaps our hope for Faith is driven by our lack of faith at the DE position.

  • Ha, ha, Starch. You "got to have faith" that we know what we're talking about. I think he's too chubby to be a DE. At 6-2? Unless, he has an arm span of 6-9 like Binns. If he's around 270, he's ready to roll. The guy plays with a motor. But I think Jaleel is already there with size and experience. And he's not Canadian =).

If you asked me right now who Iowa's best offensive player is heading into the season, I'd say Brad Rogers, hands down.

I'm high on Rogers too, but I think if our FB is hands down our best offensive player we may be in trouble. My pick (based a lot on potential and some flashes late last season) would be CJF. I think he'll be our next 1st round draft pick after tearing it up in our offense under the direction of Davis. I've read (don't remember where) that our TE's are practicing more long routes than in the past and working on getting them (I think especially CJF) isolated in coverage. I'm expecting a huge year from CJF and a breakout year from Hamilton also.

I HOPE Keenan is ready to take on the responsibility of being the number one WR and shows what he can do this year. I think he has the tools to have a big year as long as he can be consistent.

Like K. Davis, I think the only thing holding JVB back is the mental part of the game, especially on the road. If he can master the new offense, hopefully he'll improve on last year's performance and become "Mr. Clutch" like Stanzi. He's definitely got the arm and can make all the throws.

I'm not an OL guru, but I'm very high on our OL depth. It does worry me that Tobin is still hanging on to his spot, but hopefully he has drastically improved from last year. I'm not too worried though because KF always plays the best 5 on the OL and I think we have some quality depth to choose from, especially if MacMillian stays healthy.

Ekakitie will likely be a defensive tackle.

And with Jaleel Johnson bulked up to 320 lbs, I would pencil him in there too. If its good weight, and his speed hasn't been hurt too much, I expect him to crack the rotation this year. Kirk is going to have a hard time keeping him out of the lineup.

This could well happen... I was just going by his "recruited position" on rivals....

I hope not, he does look big enough for a 3-4 DE.

Most sites originally classified him as a strongside defensive end, which is what we did. However, like Fish said, I think Faith will end up playing inside.

I really like CJ's potential as well. My assessment of Rogers was just about what each player has already proven. That's not a knock on anyone else, but more just a reflection of how good I think Rogers already is.

Well seeing as Iowa plays a 4-3 I think he stays inside.

  • I can see Faith being outside. Let us not forget Ballard was 300ish and he played outside or inside I can see him being that type of player.

Ballard was also 6'5" and a ridiculous athletes. He was also better inside than outside.
