Welsh-Ryan Arena has been a house of horrors for the Hawkeyes in recent seasons but Sunday afternoon Iowa enjoyed a much-needed reversal of fortunes.
Aaron White scored 17 points as the Hawkeyes snapped a five-game losing streak in Evanston. More importantly, Iowa entered the win column in Big Ten play for the first time this season after dropping its first three league games.
Iowa is now 12-5 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten with six days to prepare for Wisconsin. The Badgers, unbeated in conference play through three games, face No. 5 Indiana Tuesday night in Bloomington before squaring off against the Hawks Saturday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Josh Oglesby scored 14 points and Melsahn Basabe added 11 off the bench as nine Hawks found their way into the scoring column.
Dave Sobolewski paced the Wildcats (10-7, 1-3) with 14 points
Northwestern was just 15 of 51 from the floor Sunday and managed just 15 points in the first 20 minutes as Iowa led 25-15 at the half.
A total of 6,805 fans, many dressed in black and gold, attended the game.
